Information from 5thstar has pointed out that a new spacecraft from JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) named Akatsuki which will be bound for Venus sometime next year and this time round, Miku could be going to Venus as well provided that an condition has to be met first. For more information and background story regarding how this comes about just continue reading and who knows, Miku could be going to Venus with your name too. ;)
Update: Total signatures have broke 10,000 at around December 22nd 21:20 hours Japan Standard Time. Well done everyone! Cheers! ^__^
As at December 24th 03:00 hours Japan Standard Time: over 11,000 signatures
This whole thing started with the original JAXA Akatsuki campaign allowing group entries with more than 100 members to send an illustration on board the spacecraft which will be bound for Venus, a space fan known as @chodenzi decided to help send his favorite Vocaloid character Miku into space by collecting names on the internet.
Later on @chodenzi went to create a miniature model of Miku onboard his small “satellite” out of his passion for Miku hoping that he could send it to space someday. His determination eventually gets him on an Arizona desert in September in a rocket contest XPRS (eXtreme Performance Rocket Ships). With this new Akatsuki campaign coming up @chodenzi saw this as another opportunity and went to set up his own version of the sign-up website asking people to join in.
Then, Prof. Seiichi Sakamoto, who is responsible for the public outreach and external relations of JAXA/ISAS, informed @chodenzi that if more than 10,000 people were to sign up for this campaign, he would allocate one of the 100 aluminum plates (8cm by 12cm each) to the group of which the plates would have the purpose of being counter weights of the spacecraft and it will be able to carry messages and illustrations on it.
So here’s the condition, we need to gather a total of 10,000 signatures and these signatures must reach JAXA by December 25, 2009 (Japan Standard Time). Anyone can sign up so for those who’s interested, you can go directly here to the sign-up page to add in your name together with the message that you want it to be onboard Akatsuki.
There isn’t much time left, so sign-up and do your part as a Vocaloid and Miku fan. =D
And if you haven’t seen the video below, go and see it now. It’s made by Tripshots in support of this project.

Is a Nickname enough?
Yes, that's enough. You can add in a message for Miku and JAXA if you want.
Thx – Now I am thinking what message I could leave – since I only got 40 letters.. :/
I am used to write bigger texts though.. xD
I signed it a few days ago. :D I told Miku-chan to take lots of pictures. :D
