Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #173 – Cry

Vocaloid NND Weekly Ranking
Weekly Vocaloid Ranking “Unselected”

This week I decided to change the style of the vocaran a bit to make it easier to see the rank. Let me know what you think about this change in the comments.

Naho’s Opening Statement:

Good morning, it’s time for this week’s VocaRan!

It seems that, this year, the flu is targeting people who are in their twenties and thirties, which is about the age of our listeners… Make sure to gargle* and wash your hands!

*Gargling is practiced in Japan for perceived prevention of viral infection.

This week’s top 3 songs are getting a lot of attention. Maybe, a bit like the flu, they spread among the population, or that people were really waiting to hear the work of the SCL Project, or simply that they’re new songs, but in any case, they’re really addictive!

It’ll soon be February, which means it will be time for mamemaki and to eat the ehomakis. And don’t forget to offer the obligatory-gift chocolates for Valentine’s Day!

This week too we’ll start from number 30!

Let’s put our hands together for shameless happy electro! Shameless indeed, something about it keeps you listening for a long time.

(Sadistic love)
This isn’t bad but I just can’t take to it like some of Junky’s other stuff (Melancholic, For My Soul), its good though.

(Risky Game)
KurousaP sounds good with a light jazzy feel~

Were 40mP’s songs always this catchy and fun? Torinoko City is too (lyrics are sad though). Sing My Love is as well. I really like this, why is it dropping so fast, esp. with the PV?! Sorry bout the shameless 40mP plugging…

#26 (↑37): 【GUMI】ポーカーフェイス【オリジナル曲PV付】 (Poker Face)
<no comment>

#25 (↓17): 【GUMI】モザイクロール【オリジナル曲PV付】 (Mozaik Role)
<no comment>

#24 (↓7): 【巡音ルカ・GUMI】 speed 【オリジナル･PV】
Win combination still wins \o/ Great Duo. The art isn’t my style and I still love it, must be good.

What this with the PV always gets you caught up emotionally in it, well done.

Machige! <3 After uploading this he goes off to sing it himself. What great use of Miku Dark

Another beautiful melancholic rock song by yuyoyuppe~ The PV is awesome as well.

Appeals to me. I will have to look into this P more, I don’t recognize them. HuwariP?

Is there any better way to make a somewhat politically relevant statement than through awesome Luka rock? Not really.

That’s quite the drop. I still like the song, regardless.

This is one of those styles I think Miku was made for.

Oh hello, I wonder if there’s a reason for the drop…nah, there can’t be.

#15 (!!): 【初音ミク】「夜待ちルイン」【オリジナル】
<no comment>

#14 (↑21): 【初音ミク】ハイドアユートピア【PV付き】 (Hidoor Utopia)
Raise! And a raise well deserved as well. Yeah, been impressed with this.

(Babel)
The song sounds a bit muffled to me, but it’s definitely well composed!

(Ten-Faced)
D’aww Gumi

(Originality)
Doesn’t feel as Original as it could be but I don’t mind this kind of beat, haven’t seen a Miku song with this kind of style up this high recently.

<no comment>

#10 (↓2): 初音ミク（Θ）どういうことなの！？
I say this is Chaining Intention level excellence when it comes to MMD integration into PV making. Really great stuff and a great song. The opening instrumental and visual combination (replayed around 3:25ish) is just stunning and gets you really into it. Love the expressiveness used with the MMD Miku model here, just enhances the experience so much.

(Normalize)
Rock Rin yeeeees!!! Yup, no other Vocaloid fits one genre so perfectly imo.

(Last Last)
Oh fresh~ Great for casual listening.

(Domino Effect)
This sounds adorable

These two sound super awesome together, and their Appends are no exception.

Awww, Rin/Len are just cute

Miku’s gentle whispery tone here is quite amazing Amazing Art (I know I’m such a sucker for the stuff) and I love well-made songs that use Miku in this style. When you think about it, the whole “whisper singing” thing is really unique to Vocaloid/Miku Append. So many great and unique songs to be had with this.

THIS WEEK IN HISTORY: (WVR#120)
This spot is for a look back at the VocaRan one year before. Here are the top five songs from that week.

H5: This was one impressive looking PV

H4: When I first found this a few months ago I really loved it.

H3: We love you Haku~

H2: Back then, I didn’t like this song, but it’s grown on me so much I even sang it.

H1: As side I didn’t know Luka had. But on another note, her voice is really well suited for works requiring a more mature sounding voice. Plus this song has a unique and enjoyable flavor to it.

Who didn’t see this coming? It’s VanaN’Ice baby! \m/, (Gosh Kaito and Gakupo look nice with glasses and streaked hair) Freaking awesome. Good music, great PV, and a great little funny streak to it.

I feel the urge to sing this, you all should too. I feel it, but its so fast!

There was no contest here, Hachi is taking over like a storm! I get quite a Matryoshka feel though. Almost like 2 parts of the same thing huh? I will never like Matryoshka, this, and all Hachi as much as most other people but you can’t deny the talent.

A peaceful Luka song worth listening to till the end. This is actually quite a rare kind of song for Luka to sing! Its nothing special but great to hear!

In Other Vocaloid News:

That was this week’s number 1!

A lot of new features, including the long awaited Duet Mode and Contest Mode! And of course, there are a lot of new songs!
“Hatsune Miku Project DIVA Arcade Version A” will be sequentially coming to all the video arcades in Japan starting from January, 27th.

Incidentally, we now can hear Vocaloid songs even in convenience stores! Maybe 2011 will be the year of Vocaloid!

Well then, let’s see the rest of this ranking, from number 31.

Final Thoughts/Analysis:

Hmm some kind of project diva announcement, waiting on kurisuto’s translation on that!

…And so with that, we end this week’s Vocaloid Ranking review. Please join us again next week, and I hate leaf cats.
