The VOICEROID consists of a 5-year old Tsukuyomi Ai and her elder brother 7-year old Tsukuyomi Shouta. Basically what the program does is that you type in a word or phrase and hear either Ai or Shouta playing it back for you. Here’s a few videos below to show how they sound like.

The VOICEROID software will be on sale on December 4th for 9,800 yen each and 17,800 yen if you buy them both as a package. You can also head over to AH-Software as well for more information about Tsukuyomi Ai and Shouta.

  1. Why do I get a feeling like they're going into quantity not quality?

And the name Shouta is just TOO disturbing for me… I hope they weren't a step away from naming the girl "Loli"…

    1. Agreed. They're going for quantity rather than quality – but the Japanese vocaloid userbase will fix the three vocaloids for them. As for the voiceroids… I don't know what are they going to be used for. =/

An article I read about the voiceroids that said that the name "Shouta" came from Shotaro Kaneda, where the word "Shotacon" came from. xD

  2. So, this is pretty much a decked out Microsoft Sam? Pass. I bet UTAUs will be made for these "VoiceOMGENGRISHRoids".

    1. Yes, Voiceroids are for speaking; Vocaloids are for singing.

I actually find the choice of voices to be oddly inspiring. Text2Speech is always a little clunky, so why not use the voice of someone who speaks clumsily to begin with?

  3. It is a little clunky, but I can pick out what they're saying. I guess that's pretty cool. Although I found from listening to the videos that I can't really listen to it for too long or else I start to get a headache…

But still, my initial thought when I saw this on moetron remains: what would be a practical use for this?

  4. … They basically sound the same. |D; Although with children there isn't really much of a difference between genders, I guess.

In other news, anybody find these two ever-so-slightly resting on the edge of the Uncanny Valley? I mean, their voices are just so… slurred, I suppose. It'll be better as the users get to it, of course, but that isn't the greatest first impression.

  5. this is amazing!!!
my hats off to the creator man you guys are giving everyone huge creative possiblites with this.
I want to buy this right now..i hope they keep adavancing this as fast as possible ??
