Here’s your winner. Unfortunately, it can’t be embedded, but there it is. Nicopedia has a nice article about the milestone. I find it interesting that only 38% of the 1000万 videos have survived.

Here are a couple of Vocaloid songs that got close, but missed.

【ニコニコ動画】新世界「１１」

Also getting close was a medley of songs from Giving Day. You can get started here.

Too busy ripping up my brackets to follow the charts. Will do better next week. >_<

Well looks like there haven’t been any huge hits in the UTAU world recently… still, if the trend from last week (overall points being higher) keeps up, I’ll be a happy death tiger. If the average of points keeps rising, it’s also a sign of rising popularity, right? Right?

So even with school, my part-time job, and even my friends, none of it matters, in the end, just throw it all aw– no wait, that’s not right. Rather, even with all of this going on all at once in our lives, we here at the UtaRan are determined to hang in there. However, with that having been said, I must inform you that the translations will not necessarily be part of the article as soon as it’s published– school has to come first right now, and we don’t want the cuddly neighborhood death tiger living in a cardboard box under a bridge because she flunked out of college, do we? D: In the same way, comments will be added to the article later, just like the VocaRan articles. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience the lack of our opinions might cause you. D:

But as for now, we present week 70 of the Weekly UTAU Ranking. Onward to victory!

NAMI’s OPENING STATEMENT:
Sorry for the wait. It’s time for this week’s UtaRan.

It’s finally starting to warm up, huh. This season is the season of hellos and goodbyes.

This season is also approaching the start of the new school year, making it a very important time. I think that this means there are a lot of things that people won’t have time to do.

As the Weekly UTAU Ranking moves toward a new year, we are aiming for a new system and are taking applications for new staff members. I think this might cause a ruckus… please bear with us.

When everyone here is comfortable with UTAU is when the 2010 term will really begin, I think.♪

WEEKLY RANKING PART 1

#20: 【UTAU】あきら様の声を抽出してみた（テスト） (Down from 10) – Ronald, Miku, Teto, and Akira…um…okay. Look, I don’t know what was so popular about the video, but admittedly it did drop 10 slots.

#19: 【UTAU】　B.D.　【重音テトオリジナル曲】 (NEW) – Whoa high pitch Teto. It’s not like you.

I think since a good amount of it is Teto’s “singing” it’s perfectly fine here.

#15: 【重音テト】迷走ジェット【オリジナル】 (NEW) – Suddenly, I had this image of all of the other UTAU bundled together all clutching onto one rope tied to one plane.
THIS WEEK’S UTAU TOPIC:
Here’s the news corner. First is the new voicebanks section. But before that, an apology. Moll was introduced last week, but was for some reason overlooked. We’ll show the introductory video with this week’s new voicebanks instead.

This week there are six new voiebanks, but with Moll added there are seven. Here they are:

Moll
Bakune Riku
Lavan Ash
Shion and Ruon
Dokune Noko
Kamene Kozo

FINAL THOUGHTS

An interesting random week. Nothing of major interest to me; I suppose my iPod will be lonely for another week.

Article has been updated, and everything should be here. Please enjoy!

Sorry again for the wait. I won’t bore you with details, but suffice to say I hope this situation never arises again. I know not a lot of people count on us for UtaRan news since there aren’t a lot of people that care about it to begin with, but I would like to think that we can become a reliable source for UtaRan information and reviews for when people decide that they do care. I promise I’ll do my best to continue bringing you the coverage of the UTAU front. まかせてにゃ～★

Now, about the ranking. Teto’s reclained her throne, but other UTAU are still managing to pop up and survive. If I could talk about Nana for a minute: the meme that Nana covered is really the perfect kind of song for her to sing, and if there were more songs featuring her like this, I think she would be more popular among UTAU users. Her voice can easily be annoying, but it can also sound cute and realistic when used right. Nana’s sort of a favorite of mine if only because she’s so out there, so… pink, so… filled to the brim with cuteness. It’s endearing, I guess. So. Don’t be hatin’ on Nana. That’s all.

Tune in next week for more UtaRan coverage, and maybe… a surprise…? :O

Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #127 “Unselected”: LINK HERE

First off, welcome to the new and improved WVR review article format version 5.2 (WHEW~!!!). Because of the new History link added last week, we are now able to give comments to the songs a little bit earlier than the actual ranking. This new format should also technically allow for all the editors to comment without looking overcrowded and cluttered. But then, that reminds me: where in the world are the other editors!? I haven’t seen them for the past couple of days now. Maybe they’ll come around later. </morning rave>

Anyways, let’s get it on with this week’s chart. From what I can see from the NND ranking, we got a few interesting songs this week. All I can say is, “so I herd yu liek meidos…”

Naho’s Opening Statement:

Good evening everyone; it’s time for this week’s VocaRan.

To the people who went to and watched the Miku’s Day Celebration, good job! It seems we really blew them away!

Thirty-nine songs, one right after the other, the possibility of hurting yourself or your voice going hoarse… I hope Miku and the others can rest now that they’re not busy… I hope they’ll be okay. Not to mention, will the aftermath of this affect the whole ranking as well…?

UTAU has been out for two whole years already… feels like just yesterday I was listening to UTAU songs on youtube (this is before I learned youtube sucked compared to NND) and wondering how people could put so much effort into something with such little chance of any gratitude or recognition being given back. And now here I am, toiling away every week to bring all of you the best UTAU Ranking coverage I can, even though only a single-digit number of people actually care outside of Aster and CK. Funny how life works sometimes.

THIS WEEK’S UTAU TOPIC:
Welcome to the news corner. Here is the new voicebanks section. This week we have ten new voicebanks, but since Kiyu was in the ranking, here are the other nine.

Kawazuya Tao (the original video was deleted, so use this link instead)
(currently unnamed)
Higure Kiki
(currently unnamed)
(*there is no kana spelling given for the last name, and there are too many combination possibilities for me to feel comfortable guessing. I apologize for any inconvenience)

FINAL THOUGHTS:

A lot of points this week, which caused there to be very few stuff in the Extra Ranking (something that nearly made me flub up the Ranking format and made dez worry her head off about both of our sanities when I panicked). Most of the UTAU this week were of the same old crowd, though more Yufu (and Ruko~) would be nice. Still taking offense at the fact my UTAU seems to never be mentioned but this is the last week I’ll complain. If anyone can tell me what I’m doing wrong I’d appreciate it! Seriously, they pick a chainsaw and not mine?

It’s not that they pick and choose; something must’ve gone wrong in the process… anyway. Another great week. Higher scores overall is something I’m really happy with, but something to note is that although Teto didn’t claim the number one spot this week, she showed up just about everywhere else! Almost the entire first half was Tetoriffic, and her improv Momo song landed her in the top three. Looks like you can’t keep the doriru away for long…

Well, the idea is we want more diversity in the rankings. I don’t mind people using Teto and loving Teto– heck, I like Teto– as long as she’s not the only one around. The UtaRan SP ranking was released a few days ago, and most of the songs were Teto songs. Most of the top ten were Teto songs. This isn’t surprising, but it is still a bit disheartening. Still, there were a lot of old faces returning this week, and for that and the higher point values, I’d say overall, this was a pretty good week.

Speaking of the SP Ranking, we plan on bringing you coverage of that as well. There will be defeats and triumphs! Romance! Comedy! Drama! Controversy! Se– no wait, none of that… Be sure to tune in for our UtaRan SP Ranking special! (what do you mean it’s not redundant)

Higher points? I thought it went lower… Also the emergence of Vocaloid and UTAU union is still strong, and my hopes of group songs were accomplished for now. I’m enthusiastic about the Sp, but some of the results were not expected….Also, not many extras for the Ranking. Why would that be? last but not least, HAPPY 2ND ANNIVERSARY UTAU! -gets out the party poppers-

…but the voice of the people is also stated to be the voice of madness, which is very appropriate in the above context, really. </self-deprecation>

Anyway, so I finally got around and refurbished the article’s format a bit, figuring out how to make good use of headers (GASP!) so that I don’t abuse the BOLD-ITALICS-UNDERLINE-ALLCAPS combo… too much… I’ll stop ranting now and just move on to the charts.

I apologize for the lateness. Real Life happened… so to make up for it, comment overcrowding will be overlooked for this article.
THIS WEEK IN HISTORY: (WVR #74 LINK HERE) This spot is for a look back at the VocaRan one year before. Here are the top five songs from that week.

H5: Still samfree…

H4: Still TOE-d’aaaaaaaaaaawwww~!!!

H3: Still Double Lariat…

H2: And finally, Synchronicity part 1… Ah, yes, what really drew me to this song is the stunning artwork (before I discovered it was a web novel).

H1: Then we have a revival of sorts since this is mostly the time when Japanese students graduate from high school. I was kinda ticked when this song forced Synchronicity into the 2nd spot, but… oh well.

#3: 初音ミク　オ リジナル曲　『 Atoms 』 (NEW) – Hmm… meh, nothing special here IMHO… Though I find it interesting that “kokoro” is rendered in the same Katakana as Rin’s KOKORO… +1 point to my meme theory.

#2: 【初音ミクdark(＋ 巡音ルカ)オリジナル曲】ウタカタ永焔鳥【PV】 (NEW) – Now this is an interesting combination: Miku’s dark append with Luka’s natural lowness… I kinda like it. Helps that the PV looks good, too. So which god does sasakure-san have to pray to to get a number one song? Seriously, even though he’s always getting into the top five… And this was really amazing work…

#1: 【初音さん】 サボテンと蜃気楼【オリジナル】 (NEW) – Awwwww… the PV is just too cute! Gonna view the entire thing now, hopefully it doesn’t have a sad ending. ;_; DARN IT!!! TT__TT I knew it… I think I know why such tear-jerking story PVs make it to the top of the WVR in their debut week. Now if you’ll excuse me, I think it’s starting to rain… My theory is if you didn’t cry even a little bit while watching the PV, you have no soul.

ED Song: 巡音ル カでオリジナル曲 「冬の幻想」 – Huh, strange. There’s an ED song, but it’s not on the MyList for this week’s chart. Can anyone else get it for me? Nevermind, found it. >_<

In Other Vocaloid News:

The genre-defying, boundary-breaking, sensational and controversial hit “magnet” has finally arrived! From minato (RyuuseiP), “magnet -favorite plus-” will be released from MOER on March 10th!

And of course, March 9th is Miku’s Day Thanksgiving Celebration! Everyone! Let’s make record numbers at the concert!

Final Thoughts/Analysis:

I think if there’s one thing that’s become evident over the course of these rankings with the new system, it’s that popular songs are a lot slower to fall. This means that if a song pops up one week and is gone the next, it was truly a one-hit wonder… whereas before, it seemed like most popular songs were destined for that fate, except for the few lucky ones that got to stick around (and possibly become regulars?).

I like this trend and I don’t. Of course I like it because it means the good songs (and the not-so-good ones that happen to become popular for whatever reason) get more time in the spotlight. I don’t like it only because it means less new songs in the top 30 each week. This is pretty much a non-issue, though, since those slots would most likely just be taken up by other returning songs anyway.

…And so with that, we end this week’s Vocaloid Ranking review. Please join us again next week, and stay tuned for the UtaRan review!

Do you have a Birthday in the summer? No? Well, tell your parents to send you to Los Angeles between July 1st-4th! Why you ask?
Anime Expo has announced that Ms. Asakawa is going to be their guest of honor this year!
