Final Thoughts/Analysis:

We’re now up to 11 weeks in a row with at least one score of 500k or more. With the summer unofficially over, it’ll be interesting to see if there’s a drop-off or if the Summer of Scoring continues into September.

Ahhh, is summer already over? I guess it doesn’t feel so much like summer when you’re in a full-time job. *sigh* I guess we’ll see if people will continue w/ NND as much as the past view months, or will school/work start controling lives again?

Final Thoughts/Analysis:

While I knew that samfree’s song for Lily would at least get top five, I’m not totally surprised that she didn’t grab the number one spot. I’m slightly reminded of GUMI’s humble beginnings on the WVR; only time will tell if Lily will end up w/ the same later popularity.

MMD Cup V is in full swing now, and we get to behold the wonders of a bad AAple, a Yatterman parody, and an intense hatred of mosquitoes. The title for this week’s UtaRan comes from the three themes for this MMD Cup, although the kanji themselves can be interpreted in whatever way the participant wants. Ah, so exciting! I can’t wait to watch all the videos!

Oh, wait, I was here to do something… ah yes, UTAU ranking. I’ll get right on that.

Hear hear! Same goes for the Teto compilation CD Graduation From Lie, though I haven’t seen that being sold anywhere, really… And might I just take a moment to say welcome to the Yufu fanclub, Bunny! Y’know, back in the day, I used to not like Yufu too. But I quickly realized how awesome she was and got won over. Her cover of Alice helped♪ I think my usual “dislike” (more like “indifference,” really) for her was because I tend to prefer faster-paced songs and most people use her on very slow ballads, but lately shes been featured in more unique and head-bobbing songs.

Anyway, not a fantastic, mind-blowing week, but not too bad. I think the point totals were pretty low this week, but mostly everyone’s concentrating on MMD Cup right now, so let’s give that our attention. Change, festival, thought… what will come out on top?

Final Thoughts/Analysis:

SP5 is coming next month! Better make some free time to be sitting in front of the laptop. A lot has certainly happened this year so far, hasn’t it? As for this week, I’m starting to feel as though it’s gone from “The Miku Show” to “The Miku and GUMI show.” That isn’t bad, per say, but I really would like some of the other Vocaloids to get the spotlight as well. I kind of have the feeling that Lily will come out, get a few top songs, then drop off to only show up sometimes. Then again, that’s what originally happened with GUMI and look at her now. Goes to show you anything can happen, I guess. But I still want more Kagamine, darnit. :/

I had something here about how I shouldn’t use this space to rant about my personal life, but then I ended up without computer access for the better part of a week for no real reason (except perhaps that the universe doesn’t like me anymore), and I realized something. A couple of days ago, I busted out my PS2 and decided to see which game I had in it, and play it to pass the time. The computer was occupied, so I couldn’t work on anything, so I thought, why not?

The game was SSX3. All right, I thought to myself. I can continue my quest to get platinum medals. Well I played and I saved and I played some more– after the second save, I realized that the name I had used to save my progress was ‘deztora’. I didn’t start using the name deztora until I signed up with this blog, since my other online handle was sort of well-known in other parts of the internet. That meant that I began playing my copy of SSX3 after I joined the blog.

I began playing my copy of SSX3 quite a while ago.

It made me realize that it’s been a long time since I joined V-ism. It’s coming up on a year, in fact– I joined in October of last year. It’s been wonderful; everything– from feeling like I’m a part of something big, to getting to pretend I’m a real translator, to feeling immensely stressed out over minor things, to getting to pretend I’m a real journalist– every part of being a member of V-ism has been great. I wouldn’t ever give it up willingly, although I would gladly step down as translator if someone who actually knew what s/he was doing happened to volunteer for it full-time. TL;DR… I love you guys. :’D

But enough of all that. Time to rock out. (Hey, do you think Jim Morrison is actually dead?)

Hopefully Ito will become a common face on the UtaRan. Also, can anyone help me with this out-of-nowhere love I now have for Yufu? I’ve never much cared for her before but lately… This isn’t healthy. >.>

This week had a ton of Yufu…I dunno why, but I got nothing against it –shrug-

Indeed. More Yufu is always good because it balances out all the Teto. But I digress. No surprise at what was number one this week, although I have to say I’m surprised 毎夜P’s newest song only made it to number five. I hope it goes up in next week’s UtaRan. I also hope Light My Fire doesn’t tap out and fall off in next week’s ranking; it’s still a really awesome song, and it’s about time something from Marble got number one. First off, allow me to vent for a while about my work: IT SUCKS, plain and simple. But at least I made some friends at work to make it all a little bit easier. Unfortunately, the world of office politics is a fickle one, and due to a (not-so) unforeseen circumstance, my friends’ contracts have finally expired. Take note, they’re also part of the project I’m in, so now I’m left with the burden with nobody to talk to… so yes, this is a really desperate time for me.

Final Thoughts/Analysis:

GUMI really is starting to get more recognition, awesome! I hope this happens w/ some other Vocaloids soon (Len and Miki would be awesome). While it appears Lily’s demo hasn’t made a huge splash yet, but I’m excited to see what happens after she gets officially released (ohplzplz a new samfree “Night” series song!!!).

Then again half the good originals have a vocaloid stuffed in it somewhere. I’m glad this is more Teto-central though. This was on the Daily Ranking when it first came out. Yeah. It’s awesome. (I’d tell you what the image means, but I don’t think you’re old enough~♪) I don’t think I want to be old enough.

#2: 【重音テト】霞桜と､君に｡【オリジナル曲・PV】 (Up from 8) – I like the art a lot, just not the song all that much. Nicely done PV~ and a nicely vocalized track too.きのさああああああああん! Another to add to the PV fangasm list.

#1: 【重音テト連続音＋初音ミク】モザイクロール【UTAUカバー】 (NEW) – I was hoping this would be a good cover, and I was not disappointed. I didn’t hear about this song until people started posting up the Teto version, so Naturally I avoided the Teto version first. Teto does a good job but, something doesn’t sit right with her singing this for some reason to me. Understandable. It’s a cover of a GUMI song. GUMI’s voice is naturally softer and more fluid, while Teto’s is more solid and vivid. That’s why Teto is good for strong songs. Anyway, this is okay, but you guys know how I feel about covers being number one. MOVING ON. How – how did you NOT hear about the Gumi cover first?!?!

FINAL THOUGHTS:
Mixed bag this week. Found a few songs I really like, but also a handful I didn’t like at all. But seeing more originals than covers is a great thing (now where is my Ruko, Koto, and Tei??).

So I kind of MIA’d last week~ Sorry about that. Hectic and distractions were every which way and Lily also grabbed my attention again now I can listen to her. But, This week was pretty Teto at the end… Meh.

Kind of harried this week, so I’ll make this quick. Good week overall. Teteteto covering the top three, but good songs. As expected of the masters (Death Ohagi/Yurahonya, Kino and Murata for 3rd, 2nd and 1st respectively). A few good Yufu selections made the top twenty from Yufu’s Day, and that’s good, because for a while I thought I was the only one who cared about those things. ._.

(runs in, obviously very late) I AM NOT LATE! –pantpant- I have three excus- I mean, reasons to pardon me for being late. PSAT, ordering the BRS nendoroid, and recording Hana’s Chinese. So yeah. Anyway, I think it was a pretty standard week, a mix-bag of nothing really special with mostly Teto at the end. Ehhhhhh should have seen it coming.

Also, allow me to speak out my two cents on the Yunomi incident. At this point, I seriously doubt Minato’s magnet and Dixie’s Just Be Friends will ever be released for public viewing once more. That basically means we’ll never see them back in the VocaRan. But y’know what, that’s just fine with me. I pretty much went through the same thing with Roshin Yuukai/Meltdown, so I’m still gonna love magnet and JBF, regardless of them being associated with a plagiarist. Its really sad that the music is taking such a hit, ’cause the songs themselves are amazing and, honestly, don’t need Yunomi to stand on their own.

But enough about that, onwards to the subject at hand!

H4: Another great DECO*27 song. Too bad I didn’t know Vocaloid existed back then, Deco*27 chart-toppers 2 weeks in a row, this time with my 2nd favorite song of all time.

H3: When this one first came out, I spammed it on my Sansa in the car (poor Shin). UTAU has almost ruined this song for me. Thankfully I avoid youtube enough to where it hasn’t ruined it for me completely. Love all the artwork for this album.

H1: I still think it’s pretty novel. Yeahhhhhh~ I find it fascinating. What a unique… method.

I never realized that a song could be “busy,” but here we are. My brain is still trying to process this, but its enjoying it at the same time. If you thought this sounds busy, listen to the original. It still sounds busy. Kaito is just duplicating the awesomeness here. もう一回！もう一回！

Don’t forget to put a sock on the door :3 (sock on the door???) samfree does it again! Len song as number two… I think the universe is trolling me. B| Well a cynic could say Luka song #2, but this is just really well done.

Another visually stunning PV tops our charts. The PV is amazing, and I’m always a fan of how sasakure modifies the voices (high notes, but never enough to kill your ears). This is really amazing. And hurray for a Sasakure song that’s not using Miku getting number one!

In Other Vocaloid News:

“A new standard for singing voices.” The form, the contents, everything is shrouded in mystery concerning “VY1.” It seems the details will be announced on August 13th (Friday).

And on the same day as the details to VY1 being revealed… At the Tokyo Big Sight, Comic Market C78 will open! Vocaloid-related circles’ displays will be on the 14th (the second day). It looks like over 400 circles will appear.

This year we have record-breaking temperatures! Be sure to wear a hat and keep drinking water to help avoid heat stroke! Don’t forget your manners when you’re there, and listen to the people in charge!

Having said that, here’s the rest from this week, starting with 31.

Final Thoughts/Analysis:

Wow, three of my fav producers (mothy(AkunoP), UtsuP, and SAM(samfree) release a new song in the same week. The Buns is very pleased. But otherwise not a bad week, and I’m very happy to be seeing more Vocaloids besides Miku getting high placements; lets hope thats not just a passing trend.

Have you noticed an uptick in scores lately? I have. We’ve gone six weeks in a row with at least one score of 500k or more. There were six weeks like that in the rest of 2010. More to come on this later.

In case you haven’t been hanging around Nico Nico recently, it’s time for another round of the MMD Cup. This is especially good news for UTAU fans, since MMD Cup entries often employ UTAU models, thus giving them more fame. In case you forgot, “All Starts Are The ‘M’” won TWO judges awards in the last round of the MMD Cup– and it did pretty well in its own right, too. What will the 5th MMD Cup bring to the table? We can only wait and see… or, if you’re proficient with MMD yourself, you could make an entry of your own. Just throwing that out there.

But enough of that. Onto the ranking! This week as well, from number 20, start!

Anyone happen to know why 27 was taken off? It was last week’s number three… I thought it was awesome (in case you somehow couldn’t tell). And I didn’t get to download it yet… Maybe it’ll be put back up later with an improved version or something.

Search to find a way to buy Utam@s CDs continues. I’m thinking of just asking the Ps directly involved over twitter. The knowledge that that couldn’t possibly end well is the only thing preventing me from trying it. ^^; Phfft, if you find a way to get the Marble album, let me know! I know, right?! There’s three websites you can buy it from, and all of them refuse to ship international. ARGH! *headdesk* *cries*

Not a mind-blowing week, but the “Ochame Kinou” craze seems to be (finally) calming down (I like that song, btw). I’m expecting a raise in MMD videos for the next little while (The MMD #2 video looks promising, can’t wait to see the full video), but I also hope we get some nice originals (and more Ruko, Koto, and Tei, please).

A concept album that follows the progression from the “birth” to the “disappearance” and “passionate song”, “Hatsune Miku no Shoushitsu / cosMo@暴走P feat. Hatsune Miku”　will be released by EXIT TUNES on August 4th.

The 5th MMD Cup has begun and is gaining ground. August will be another month filled with various events! It’s so exciting, isn’t it?

With that, here’s the rest from this week, from 31 onward.

Final Thoughts/Analysis:

There’s something…right (for lack of a better term) about Gakupo songs oozing visual kei style. I wish it didn’t feel so rare in Vocaloid songs. I mean, yeah, you’re free to do whatever you want with the software, but this guy was the front man for Malice Mizer! Show some respect!

Yay, Lots of new stuff this week. Mosaic Roll had a great run but out top 3 were all deserving and the fall should be expected. Both of Luka’s Dancefloor songs were awesome and even the History brought back good memories, a good week.
